Jamaica Plain News reports on the formal opening of a 202-unit apartment building, owned by Pine Street Inn and managed by the Community Builders, at 3368 Washington St. that features 140 "supportive housing" units for people moving out of homelessness - with 24/7 on-site support staff - and 62 affordable family units.

To bring this project to completion (and everyone isn't moved in yet). Part of the housing crisis here is that it takes far too long to approve, fund, and build these kinds of units. When the approval takes too long, the funding collapses. When the funding collapses, you get back in line for the process for approvals. It's a bureaucratic nightmare and while it drags on, people suffer. Nevermind the fact that the longer these projects take, the more expensive they become, especially with inflation and now, the threat of tariffs. Any project that was on the books in November of 2024 is now going to be substantially more expensive. If you thought the housing crisis was bad before, it has just gotten much worse.
whew - close one!

Thank goodness Debbie Downer aka SWKR jumped in and kept us all from feeling hopeful about the state of things for thirty seconds or so! It’s important to ignore successes and stay in a state of frustration and despondency. Everyone knows that to build momentum and encourage more community support you have to make people feel like no good news is worth noting.
well done comrade SWKR!
