It is striking how trim most
It is striking how trim most people, kids included, in the photo look. Not the way a beach photo at the same locations would look today.
Maybe More Like "Starved"
At least, possibly, in the 1931 photo. We're talking true depression-era stuff, probably some of the poorest folks in the city enjoying free entertainment for the most part.
Also, maybe those swimsuits cover up more than today's do? :-)
