Menino should donate all his campaign war chest to remove his name from these, we don't need the name of any mayor on these. At least before we (inevitably) give away the naming rights to the 2 billion dollar convention center to Menino, these need to be cleaned up.

But a few things-
1. Does the citizen seriously think that no one in city government knows that there are "welcome to" signs with Menino's name on them?
2. Are there no better things for the city to spend it's money on than changing the signs?
There were a few things Gov. Romney got right. Not putting his name on every sign was one of them, and it is one of the few things Gov. Patrick kept on doing I think was good. Let's hope that Walsh gets the hint and that his successors don't have Menino-like egos.

The city doesn't have the budget assigned to replace Menino's name everywhere.
If there's a particularly bad incident, they'll do it on a case-by-case basis. Otherwise...well, if we want them gone, this is why we pay the City Council all those big bucks, right? Let's hope they get on it and assign a budget to do something about the problem.

I just noticed that one of Newmarket Square signs, by the commuter rail bridge outside the entrance to the mall has a color-matched big "Walsh" sticker covering the Menino part, so it's happening.
I suspect this has little to do with any actual differences between the two men.

If I recall the current Mayor was asked about this and he said he wasnt going to replace all the former mayors names until the signs needed to be replaced. A money saving thing.

to the first mayor who, instead of plastering their own name on everything, credited TAXPAYERS OF THE CITY OF BOSTON. Not only would it save us from having to pay to have everything changed whenever a new mayor came around (because after that who would want to be known as the egotistical asshole who started using their own name again), but it might help those all-taxes-are-bad folks understand that taxes are the price of civilization.
