Peabody could effectively ban UberX

The Salem News reports the city's mayor has drafted regulations that could make it difficult for the rideshare service to keep sharing rides there.

I can say without a doubt that anyone who lives there should really just buy a friggin car.

There is no other way to get around.

The taxi co.'s should just work it out with the three people who use their services.

If you need to get to the airport from Peabody, it's honestly easier to get a shuttle from Anderson/Woburn.

Next time you are in Peabody and need to get to the airport try using the Peabody/Logan express.
It is much cheaper, way more comfortable and drops you right at your terminal.

Try paying Massachusetts rents on Social Security Disability benefits of $13K a year.

Now try owning a car in that mix - if you can even legally drive.

Doesn't work, does it? People live in places like Peabody because they can afford the rent. Unfortunately, they can't afford rent someplace where transit is better.

From my experience, the heaviest users of cabs outside of big cities are generally the elderly. Are you suggesting that all seniors should rely on their own cars for all of their transportation needs? Because that hasn't always worked out so well in the past.

I live in north Salem about 3 blocks from the Peabody line. I've done fine without a car for 2 years now. I don't use Uber, but I do use Zipcar when I need to get to Trader Joes or Lowes. For everything else, I just walk the 1 or 2 miles (walking a mile also necessary to use Zipcar or commuter rail).

Can we please stop calling a livery dispatch service a "ride sharing service"?

If you offer a service at a price, and someone accepts your offer, and then you provide the service, and then the customer pays you.... that's a perfectly respectable commercial transaction, but there's no "sharing" of anything involved.
