Around 6 p.m., the outbound platform at Charles/MGH looked pretty much the same right after a train pulled out as it did before. As Lindsay Devers reports, the train was so crowded nobody could get on it.
Elsewhere? At least people waiting for trains out of South Station were inside. Ditto for North Station, where Ben Higgins snapped the departure list:
Kenmore Square station continued to operate as fire alarms kept sounding for two hours - a false alarm that resisted being shut off.
Roads across the region city, from downtown all the way down to West Roxbury Parkway in Roslindale are gridlocked as people just say fuck all and park next to snowbanks,, which leads to buses and trucks getting stuck, backing up traffic for mile after tedious mile.

Red Line

Arrived at Park at 7.05 to find a reasonably clear platform and an arrival sign that had the next Alewife trains arriving in 12 and 20+ minutes. This must be the new normal, because neither the T's Twitter feed nor its service alert page indicates that the Red Line has anything other than normal service on the central section of the line. Sigh.

I do recall mention of longer headways on both Red and Orange lines, but that was at least a day ago... that might still be going on?

such as 128 (ok, roadman, I-95) south from Weston to Needham, there was dry pavement and 70 mph. Even more infuriating, for people in town, was that the plow lines along the shoulder of the road had been cut back to the guardrails with must have been either front-loaders or a snowblower with at least a 6 ft high impeller.
I am not kidding you. Other than the 6-8 ft high wall of snow at the guardrail and beyond, it looked totally normal out there this evening.

What's the source of your fury, exactly? How would NOT clearing the shoulders of the highways make the Red Line run on time? It's not as if Mass Highway clears the rail tracks or the streets of Bostoncamberville.

Probably the poster is thinking that all that money allocated to snow clearance for Mass Highways in the DOT budget isn't fair, in comparison to the underfunding of the T and their non-existent snow clearance budget for tracks.
And perhaps Mass Highway could be tasked by the governor to help clear metro area streets too. It's dangerously narrow on city streets, with completely obscured sight lines at most residential intersections.

Fear not, fellow MASS commuters, Gov. Charlie Baker has declared next week Valentine's Week. So, take some snowshoes and go eat in a local restaurant or buy a loved one something at the mall.

I am cutting a huge amount of money from my dining-out budget, but I don't expect it to affect the number of times I go to restaurants.

Riverside Line OK

For the three days this week at rush hours, the Riverside Line was slow, somewhat crowded, but adequate, considering the circumstances. Can't speak for B, C and E. I am getting up much earlier to provide a good cushion in the morning.

Top MBTA alert this morning: "Parking will be prohibited at all MBTA station parking lots fm 7pm Sat, Feb 14, 2015, until 5am Mon, Feb 16, 2015 in order to enhance snow"
Thanks, MBTA, just what we need now.

That's ironic because the robocalls I've been getting from the City of Revere is suggesting people park at the Wonderland garage.
