Yes, there were naked people on bikes last night

OfficerInBoston watched the World Naked Bike Ride Boston edition go by last night.
Not everybody bicycled in complete deshabille, as Arturo Gossage shows us:
Gossage has more photos, some of which might not be suitable for work, especially in their larger sizes.

Is this a hipster thing?
Is this a hipster thing?
probably
A friend of mine moved to Portland, OR, a couple of years ago - and has participated in the grand tradition of naked bike rides each year since.
Double standard
Working class people can't have a beer on M street beach after a hard week of work on Saturday , Nazi State Police, Nazi Park rangers but every kind of pervert allowed to ride around Boston with their genitilia hanging out!
It must be tough on you
How do you stand it?
protest
It's a protest about how our infrastructure makes cyclists very vulnerable.
I think cars make cyclists
I think cars make cyclists vulnarable. My advice to cyclists? Avoid cars.
Better yet
Stop driving.
Nope
1st world thing.
W stands for World
Several organized rides each year in Latin America, including Brasil, Columbia, Argentina, Chile ... and rides listed in Taiwan, too.
Not really
My 50-something husband rode and wasn't nearly the oldest participant.
Of course he did.
Of course he did.
Want to see pictures?
How about a video? Definitely not all hipsters, not all young.
Launch is around 6:00. My man's in there about 6:30. Note the really old guy at around 6:48.
I encourage both
I like nudity, I like bikes, but I simply cannot fathom wanting to do both at once. Bike saddles simply were not designed with a naked butt in mind! But that's just me, I hope everyone had a good time!
"Did I scrape my genitals
"Did I scrape my genitals after a fall? Yes. Did I make a political statement? Hell yes! Was it through means so distracting and attention-grabbing that people totally missed the issue I was protesting? Well, I think that's for History to decide."

I think your a lil too old
I think your a lil too old for that reference...
Teenagers
I made Link and Zelda costumes for Halloween many years ago, and frequently have my living room full of Smash Bros Brawl and MarioKart players.
Of course you do.
Of course you do.
Seriously?
Shouldn't you be shaking up cans of PBR and felching them with that moniker? Heck, make a video and become a new hipster meme!
If You Ride A Bike With No Seat, There's No Problem
I'ma be honest, as a cyclist..
..whenever I see one of these, parts of me cringe that I did not know had the physiological ability to cringe.
Originally A Policy Protest
The original World Naked Bike Ride was established as a protest against the US policy on energy and oil consumption. It remains so today, but in some cities additional issues have been brought to the forefront.
For some it is simply something to do like the Santa Speedo Run, or No Pants Day on the subway.
Some cities embrace the one-night event and there are no problems. In other cities being nude will get you busted, even though SCOTUS says that nudity within protest is protected speech (for the most part). Some cities have failed to take that into consideration forcing some riders to spend $$$ on attorneys, or plea down to disorderly conduct just to avoid a long and protracted court case.
Sadly in some cities, profiteers have decided this is a free opportunity to take people's pictures while nude and post them on porn sites. While not porn, having one's undressed likeness on a porn site is not good.
And such images ARE LEGAL. If you are in a public place and are nude, anyone can take your picture. Whether they profit from your likeness is another matter altogether.
Ride carefully, wear a helmet, and understand the risks.
Am I missing something?
Has it become legal to be buck naked in public? Bike riders are so used to breaking laws (ie going through red lights) that breaking another one is nothing to them. Now they just go through red lights naked.

Looks like a biker in a "share the road" course...
Maybe if bikers spent more time studying the rules of the road and less time cultivating their "woe is me, drivers don't respect me!" schtick, fewer among us would be getting hit by cars. I love biking. That said, I am amazed at how many bikers blatantly run red lights or stop signs, never mind checking for pedestrians or cars. Not saying Boston drivers are adherent to the rules of the road, either. But they are not the ones whose obliviousness (at best) or arrogance/stupidity could get them maimed or killed.
I run dozens of red lights
I run dozens of red lights every day. Not only have I never hit a pedestrian, but no pedestrian has panicked and dropped their carton of eggs either.
Once I decided to wait for all the red lights. That was a weird day.
cheaper by the dozen
wow, what a cool person, breaking the law and relying on dumb luck to avoid being grievously injured
I am impressed
wowie
Going through red lights naked
Only the ones that the Cambridge PD corked for us.
