(all those of you that remember freshman biology - calico cat, over 99% chance of being female)

So she may be with kittens? But at least she is back.

Pretty sure that's a tortoiseshell, not a calico. Still most likely female, though.

The black and orange genes are sex linked.

I have one , she has no tail either. She was wild, wouldnt come near the house until it went to 20* below a few nights, now she is an indoor cat.

Tortoiseshell is two colors other than white mixed; calico adds white spotting (note the cat's chin and hind foot.)

I thought the difference was big spots of color vs. lots of mixing. I didn't realize white = calico.

I think are related. I always thought of a tortie having no white. I have a tortie and of course she's female. She has orange, black, brown...no white.

I've noticed that they also tend to be on the small side.

And their Bitchyness. ...I have a tortie as well, tortitude is very real

I had a dilute tortie and her central philosophy of life was "I am the QUEEN and don't YOU forget that!"

Lived with one for 18 years. During her first visit to the vet he asked me "Did they warn you about calicos?" (Note; that's what he called her; I think tortie/calio is not really a well defined distinction). I worried for a moment that they had some horrible health issues I was unaware of, but then the vet followed up with "They're known for their strong...personalities".

He was so right. <3

Sent to one of their training facilities, debriefed on SWAT operations, and now returned as an embedded spy!

Sorry if that sounds wacko, its these wall to wall Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, and other candidate ads all saying how evil ISIS is and they are going to defeat them.

PS beware of fluoridated water. POE.

The cat could be what we've been warned of: ISIS recruits going to Libya and now returning to the US.

She probably enjoyed some mild weather for a while, but now it's COLD. She's like "Ok, ready to come home now, snuggle up, and get warm."

"Time for a nice warm police station. And no cat here. Uh, wait ... "

she was probably out prowling for rodents, small birds, etc. Obviously not a house cat.

The cat clearly was out on a mission and suffered amnesia, only later realizing that it was a police cat.
