Man shot in Nubian Square; suspect arrested

Boston Police report arresting a man they say shot another man outside 10 Roxbury St. in Nubian Square shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The victim was able to walk away and get himself to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police say. Meanwhile:

Detectives were able to view surveillance footage and disseminated a picture of the suspect involved in the shooting. A detective observe an individual matching the suspect’s description in the area of Centre Street and Estrella Street.

The suspect observed the detective and attempted to conceal himself behind a vehicle while placing his hand into his pocket. Responding officers arrived on scene and the suspect began to approach officers with his hand still in his pocket. Officers gave the suspect multiple verbal commands to show his hands which he continued to refuse.

Officers were able to quickly detain the suspect and placed him into handcuffs. Officers searched the suspect and recovered a firearm from his left side sweater pocket. The firearm was later determined to be a Regent firearm, containing three rounds and one spent shell casing inside the cylinder.

Alexander Delarosa, 48, was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition, police say.

At his arraignment in Roxbury Municipal Court, Delarosa was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Aug. 15, court records show.
