Last year's and this year's events bear little resemblance to the original conception of First Night (an alcohol-free showcase for local art and culture). They are a sad shadow of a once great festival. Give it a new name if you have to keep it going.
It's not fair , East Boston had a front seat view of these fireworks since the 1980s, They should continue to be on the Boston harbor , 4th of July fireworks on the Charles River and New Year's Eve fireworks on Boston Harbor.
The family fireworks on the Common have always been my favorite, because you can get so close that they are almost right over your head. No other fireworks I've attended have that perspective. Though I'm not sure you could do that at Copley since it's more closed in with the buildings.

If they can't raise the money, just cancel it. We'll do just fine without it.

Not huge but they shot off some nice ones from the top of the hotel. Smaller works in a tight space.

They have also been doing quite respectable-sized "Family Fireworks" on Boston Common for years.

when shooting off those 7 pm fireworks. I don't see how you can do that at Copley -- the square just isn't big enough.

Everyone and everything wants to be on the South Boston Waterfront including helicopter pads. There's enough stuff going on down here.

The people running First Night have to be pretty desperate in order to sell off the FirstNight.org domain.
