MBTA to provide extra service for gun-control march tomorrow
By adamg on Fri, 03/23/2018 - 1:16pm
MassDOT reports the T will be boosting service on all four subway lines tomorrow during the March for Our Lives, which starts at 11 a.m. at Madison Park High School and ends with a rally on Boston Common.
MassDOT adds that Park Street and Boylston stations might have to be briefly closed during the rally it they get too crowded - and that bus routes that cross Tremont Street could experience significant delays during the march from Roxbury to the Common.

Explanation for the march
Why we march.
More wisdom from the children
Yes, people's right to freedom can trump other people's right to security.
The right to freedom of movement means that people die in car accidents and plane crashes.
The right to drink alcohol, in particular, is a direct cause of a lot of violence and a large number of vehicular homicides.
The right to speak your mind freely and peaceably can be blamed for riling up hotheads who never learned the difference between words and sticks or stones.
The right of people against self-incrimination means a whole lot of bad actors go free. That might be of particular import to the "communities of color" the kid in your link talks about.
Adulthood is being at peace with the fact that you can't have it all, that bad things happen to good people, and that there is no magic wand that lets you have perfect safety without sacrificing large amounts of freedom. These kids' "arguments" are predicated on there being such a wand.
I put "arguments" in quotes because they didn't really make any. Nor did they have any concrete proposals that they would like to see implemented. They're just raging and bawling and howling that bad things happen.
A "regional network" to keep guns bought in NH out of Mass you say? Well there's this big region called the United States that already mandates background checks on all commercial gun purchases and makes it illegal to sell a gun across state lines without a background check performed by an FFL dealer. So what are you asking for? That laws on the books already be enforced? I can get behind that, but that's not particularly sexy.
Awww
Someone is lecturing on adulthood. How sweet.
That makes them True Believers, dear
not people you'd want making laws for you.
Serious question: did you/are you/will you teach your own children to shoot?
No
That makes them critical thinkers if they are rejecting your counsel to just be parodies of citizens like you rather than full voting and participating citizens.
That's the Swirly I know and love
Telling me I'm not a full citizen and not a parody of a critical thinker!
Where have you been all these weeks? I'm guessing by the prevalence of the words 'counsel' and 'parody' in your last few posts you were counseling a citizens' council on the finer points of parodies?
An outlier weighs in with old, disproven logic
Watch carefully today - the kids that are marching are only a fraction of the size of this movement. They are going to be voters in short order - in total, they represent millions of upon millions of new voters.
Today the issue is about sensible gun safety. In 2018 and 2020 they will join those of us that shall repudiate Trump and right wing agenda and followers - the people who want to return the nation to the 1950s. Time is up, bucko.
.
Say or write whatever you choose but the tide is coming in and is going to wash you and your contemporaries away.
You sound so scared - you should be.
Nahh
I saw Lord of the Flies.
When that kid looked up and saw the soldier at the end. Why do you think the kid got all emotional?
I liked your post
What's not to like about veiled threats of rubbing out half the country (and about 35%of this state's voters) from the fabric of history?
Classy.
What do we right wing nuts like to say? You know you've won an argument with a liberal when they start making Trotskyist threats.
Interesting.
The young people are protesting which is their constitutional right and somehow they should not do this because it make you, personally, less secure? Really?
So, those other countries that have, say stricter gun laws, what you are saying is that they are less free? Really?
Hate to tell ya, Roman, those hotheads that you are quacking about, well, they are going to be hotheads with or without people protesting.
Top this T
Bob Kraft is transporting the families of the Parkland High survivors in the Patriots jet to the march in Washington.
What about all those students from the Boston area
who want to attend the March (f*****g autocorrect) in Washington but can't afford to get there. Hey Bobby, you have TWO planes - don't these kids deserve as much consideration as the Parkland families?
Are you ever happy to see
Are you ever happy to see someone help out? When is enough enough for you? Jeez, get a life loser.
The man did something nice
The man did something nice for the victims, friends and families of a mass shooting where 17 people died in a school. Can't you be gracious and say hey, that's a nice thing he did? What are you doing to get the local kids to Washington?
Dude
They raised a bunch of money and hired buses, which left from Codman Square on Friday.

Right...and...
Do you know that some of the tax dollars your town or city is getting from the state in local aid comes from income taxes paid by S&W and from state sales taxes collected on people buying guns?
zOMG! Gunz!!!1!
March
Don't know what the march is about, but I'm glad thousands of people are coming to Boston to spend their money and help the city's economy. It'd be dead in the city otherwise.
Must be tough
Having a mouse that doesn't work so you can't click on the link in the first comment.
Extra service. Interesting.
Maybe they could try that during the work week?
It's probably going to be a
It's probably going to be a weekday schedule as opposed to a normal Saturday schedule.
Green Line extra service means one or two more
trains ping-ponging between Blanford and Park Street. Oh, and let's not forget their favorite fun trick of short-turning North Station trains at Government Center.
Doesn't exactly help those planning on coming in from the suburbs for this March (da^^ autocorrect again), now does it.
Pictures
I just heard of this a few days ago and I usually will give up my day to take photos (for me and for Uhub)
But I made plans with a lady-friend to bring her daughter down to go to the Aquarium. She actually wants to go (she's been wanting to join me on one of these), but its her daughter who might throw a fit (a six year old who wants to see seals)
But as a kindergartner... sadly.. she knows what lock down is, but doesn't quite get the "why" yet. We are thinking we may use the march as a teachable moment for her to tell her "why".
We will see.
Good on ya, Cybah!
Lots to explain to a 6 yo, but some of the most meaningful and long lasting knowledge and wisdom often comes not from a parent, but a trusted adult. Sadly, kids know an awful lot about school shootings and such things these days, best to help them develop the skills to interpret and evaluate, rather than try and shield and redirect or worse yet, indoctrinate with dogma. Given access to the facts, and with a solid moral footing, they'll come to a good and proper conclusion on their own, and that's pretty powerful. Good luck!
You can always do both...
Take the time after the march to walk through the aquarium and have the discussion while being surrounded by small cute sea creatures for comfort/soften the blow of what i'm sure is a frightening subject. unless the sea creatures provide too much of a distraction for the important existential discussion.
FWIW
As a young kid I went to a bunch of AIDS events in the 80s when a lot less was known. I was a decade+ removed from needing to worry about such things but it left a good impression about civil activism. (And of course, safe sex.)
The gun and women's marches have a similar feel today.
I Want Pictures!
( "Adorable!" pictures, of course )
Oh Sweet Jesus,
ENOUGH of these weekly marches and demonstrations that maae life miserable for the majority who live/work in central Boston and use the MBTA. And, they are only preaching to the choir.
Oh, poor baby
Every week? Really?
In any case, I hear they don't get many protests in Dover. And you get to see horsies!
Preaching far beyond the local choir
No actually they are exhibiting that there are a large number of people who want sensible gun control. Simply by being there they help send the message to our leaders that we need change. (When do we want it? NOW!)
I used to live on Comm Ave in the Back Bay, and on Beacon St
in Brookline before that. There are charity road races, bike rides and walks, as well as much rarer protest marches, every other weekend in warmer weather, plus the Marathon. I suppose if you really objected to people giving up their spare time to support worthy charities, or exercise their democratic right to free speech, or participate in a world-renowned, hallowed athletic event as an insufferable burden, you could move.
And yet somehow, hundreds of thousands of Back Bay, Kenmore and Brookline residents along those routes, many of whom (as I routinely do) rely on the T, are managing to live happy, productive lives and continue to reside there. I never once heard a complaint from my neighbors about the alleged misery of that traffic.
Me, I'm grateful to live in the kind of city that enables these activities, and among the kind of generous, engaged Americans that support them, despite the occasional personal inconvenience.
Have you met Roman & Capecoddah
The three of you could form a Troll Club - each could take your turn offering irrelevant, antisocial spin hiddened by dog whistles- oh wait, you already do that - never mind
If you keep hearing dog whistles...
maybe you're a dog?
Nice doggie! That's a good boy!
Speak (some Dem talking points)!
Roll over (to the left, naturally)!
Adorable!
Some are unable to accept that they have politically
lost this next voting generation. This makes wing nuts throw up in their mouths.
How old do you think I am?
I am not far removed from "this next generation" and I'll be voting for decades and decades to come.
When I was in high school, I thought socialism was cool, too. Kids mature faster than lefties would like them to.
Voting republican is supporting Putins agenda.
You can explain that for decades to come.
Voting Democrat is supporting Putin's agenda

Try hard
You are a millennial just like you are a funhouse mirror selfie of a stereotype American.
I don't have to try
You've accused me of being a millennial often enough. Now you're accusing me of not being an actual millennial.
I'm cool with that. I can be both at once. Because quantum wooo!
Thumbs up for the T
I hope the T, keolis, Logan. Uber. Lift and all means of transportation are listening to these young adults.
Best thing to happen since the Vietnam war protest to help end the war
Maybe the pols will listen. Maybe parents will listen to their children at the polls.
Usually
Sticks, huh?
stick [stik] NOUN
a thin piece of wood that has fallen or been cut from a tree.
When you have to tell your followers to not carry sticks, it is time to rethink your alignments and priorities.
The overseers do allow you to have snacks, though. How benevolent.
But open carry intentional intimidators
are welcome.
You mean like the cops doing security for the rally?
Who are all open carrying?
Gun grabbers talk the talk, but every time they book armed security they don't walk the walk.
