People in Kenmore Square were told to shelter in place as cops hunted a man, possibly with a gun, who ran into a Green Line tunnel
UPDATE: WBUR reports police found an Airsoft pellet gun, but no suspect.
A search for a man spotted with what might have been a gun near Landmark Center around 1:20 p.m. turned into a massive police search through Kenmore Square after he was spotted running into an inbound Green Line tunnel.
A BU Police order to "shelter in place" for 610 Beacon St. and 481 Commonwealth Avenue was soon extended to every building in Kenmore Square after police began looking for the man in the BU Bookstore.
He was described as "a white male with a beard, white t-shirt, blue jeans and a bandage on his face."
Around 2:15 p.m., though, BU Police lifted the stay-in-place directive; "Police have determined that the area is safe."
It's the second time in two weeks local campus police have issued stay-in-place orders.

Considering that Fenway track
Considering that Fenway track portal is a busy construction site for a set of flood control doors and the tunnels are full of cameras, why isn't there better information available?

Hi
Love the site
As of the 7:00 news on
As of the 7:00 news on channel 5, the suspect has not been caught
An airsoft is not a pellet gun
Airsoft = 6mm round plastic BBs or 6mm paintballs (6mm is larger than a metal BB used by BB guns).
BB gun (pistol and rifle): Think Daisy or Red Ryder. They use 4.5mm metal round BBs.
Pellet gun or rifle: .117. or .22 lead pellet, some use metal BBs. They can be manual (must be loaded with a pellet and cocked for every shot), or semi auto using C02 gas.
Airsoft is harmless and used in games. Although I suppose, in theory, someone could lose that proverbial eye.Airsoft do look very authentic until you're holding one, which make them dangerous if someone has a real gun and thinks the airsoft is also real.
BBs are harmless. Might sting if hit on bare skin, and yes, could possibly cause domeone to lose an eye. BB guns also look pretty authentic.
Pellet guns: Rifles can look pretty real, but the cocking arm is a dead giveaway. C02 semiauto look like real firearms. Lead pellets can be fired at a much much higher velocity (fps) than airsoft or BB. You can hunt small animals with a powerful pellet gun. It would hurt a human if shot with one, but only kill someone with a direct head shot at point blank range. Losing an eye is an ever present threat.
Whenever somebody says such
Whenever somebody says such and such is harmless I dare them to volunteer as a target.
An airsoft or BB gun are harmless
The BB might sting on bare skin.
Pellet gun can hurt someone and a close range head shot could, if it hits the right spot, kill someone. The likelihood of that happening is very slight.
Doesn't matter in assault cases, though
If you point a realistic looking pellet gun at somebody and they fear you're going to shoot them, that's assault with a dangerous weapon, same as if you'd pointed an assault rifle at them.
