Molly Lanza was among the roughly 500 people who marched this afternoon from the Holocaust Memorial to the South Bay jail, where the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department makes money by renting space to ICE for use as a detention facility.

If you oppose immigration, you should favor stopping the American actions that drive migrants here, like,
a) violence spurred by US gun sales to their home countries,
b) evironmental devastation inflicted by US pesticides on "the fumigated towns" of Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay and Paraguay.

What do we do to little boys and girls who don't play by the rules of civilized society?
Do we
a) Make them sit in the corner until they've learned their lesson
b) Reward them with ice cream and cake and tell them how righteous and pure they are for Sticking It To The Man(TM)
If you answered (a), report to re-education at once.

Since 15 posts by the same person remain, this is hardly a case of egregious censorship. I suppose it’s possible that a deleted post just happened to be the one so erudite, with just the right combination of polysyllabic words, that it would have convinced everyone that detention camps are okay if the US is doing it. But the track record of this poster suggests that is unlikely.
Adam has previously mentioned that as moderator of posts from unregistered UHub users he declines to post the most blatantly racist comments he sees. But since there are plenty of social media platforms that allow such speech to flourish, I’m okay with the occasional bit of moderation here.

The fellow I referred to, from what I could see, enjoyed a comfortable middle class life, with a house, kids, extended family, etc. He was not fleeing a culture where violence and torture have been the norm for decades. Violence even worse than the degree of violence in the US.
Immigrants fleeing from nations that have over the decades devolved into barbarism (often with US help) are desperate to save their lives. Just as the Jews the US refused to allow to enter the US and instead forced them back to Nazi Germany.
Your attempt to force a comparison between two different sets - one, a person comfortable and safe but acts with hatred against others, versus people who are running from torture and death, is the proverbial apples and oranges comparison. Both are fruit, but nevertheless are very different.

By berkleealum

Again, the problem is the only solution that you can see is what's going on right now. Is there a response to an influx of migrants that doesn't involve keeping kids in cages? When people die in detention at the border, are we correct to treat our government's failure to sustain them while under its care as an acceptable cost of doing business there?
This is way more complex than immigrants bad -- yet you keep throwing out the same old talking points: Don't cross the border illegally; These aren't children, they're criminals; We can't afford the tax burden of treating these people humanely.
Is it possible that there is a middle ground? Or maybe it's politically prudent for this administration to peddle the idea that it's a choice between kids in cages or open borders.
By the way, you're wrong on the last count. https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-middle-east-1340...

Or, use www.duckduckgo.com (the search engine that doesn't track you!) and google 'Operation Barbarossa'. Or, lacking the talent for that, simply youtube a song by Al Stewart called 'Roads to Moscow.' That is genocide.
Therefore Mike Pence supports genocide.

Pence, conservative christians and gays
By Daan
Wed, 07/03/2019 - 11:46am
Pence has made clear, when he was governor of Indiana, and subsequently, that he believes Gay people are evil, and, if they can't be made to disappear, should at least be legally turned into 2nd class citizens. Just type Pence and Gays into a browser.
Pence has also made clear that he considers himself christian. But what kind of christian? A liberal christian who takes sees Biblical text as complicated with stories that are metaphors, thematic and to be studied, or as just historical recitations of angelic visits?
He's made it clear that he sides with the people who insist Sodom is about God destroying homosexuals.
Conservative christians range from wanting Gays to just stay in the closet to wanting to exterminate Gay people.
Here are some quotes:
"Sacramento-based preacher Roger Jimenez is also scheduled to appear. In 2016, he said of the Pulse shooting: “Are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today?”
“If we lived in a righteous government, they should round them all up and put them up against a firing wall, and blow their brains out.”
Tommy McMurtry will also attend. He once said that “homos” should be “put in their place: six feet under.”
The full article is here: https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2019/06/preachers-make...
There is a violent streak among so-called christians. Where has Pence stood among these folks?
Add Trump's needling of Pence (granted anything Trump says is dubious) where he says that Pence would hang all Gays. That was reported on an NBC News site.
Pence is smart enough to realize that politically he would harm himself to make the violence based statements that people of religious violence make. But then he doesn't have to make those statements since proxies do it for him.
This is how social hate and its ultimate expression of genocide develops. Not just regarding Gays in the US, but native Americans in the 19th C., Armenians by Turks, the genocide of Cambodians by Pol Pot and the pogroms of pre-Communist Russians.
We are living in a period where violence of group against group is ascendant. We are fools to ignore the violent threats and the actual violence.
It is becoming a cliche but true nevertheless: When a person says they want to harm, maim or kill another, believe them. Don't just dismiss it as, "Oh, it's just politics."
The belligerence toward immigrants that is used to justify inhumane cages arises from the same spirit of hatred. To hate any group requires dehumanizing them, whether it's brown skin people from south of North America or Gays, Lesbians and other sexual minorities. Once a group is dehumanized then it is much easier to eliminate that group.
For evidence of that behavior of one group against another just look to the acts of genocide that God commands in the Old Testament or Hebrew Bible.
It is ironic that the people most willing to dehumanize a group they dislike also treat Biblical text with a level of idol worship that would make Moses blanch. Perhaps it is a logical and inevitable of psychopathic group psychology.

By cden4
Wed, 07/03/2019 - 10:15am
Sure, the government isn't committing mass murder right now, but they are letting people unnecessarily die by not giving sick people medical care and by housing them in disgusting conditions.
No one is saying that the government is committing genocide. They are saying that the government is violating detainee's human rights. Whether they are here legally or illegally is irrelevant. The Constitution applies to anyone within our borders, not just citizens, as do international agreements on humane treatment. Note that applying for asylum is 100% legal.
The government is also unnecessarily separating children from their families. There is nothing legal that requires this. It's simply a tactic to inflict cruelty on migrant families. It's doing permanent psychological harm to children, who had no choice in the matter on whether to come here or not.
The point of the protests is to say that we are not okay with these conditions, and that historically, there have been many times when camps that began like this got worse and worse over time. The Nazis didn't start with genocide, but by the time they got to that point, the average citizen was powerless to stop it. Let's not go down that path again.
