You can't just autopilot your car unconsciously across the intersection of Newbury Street and Mass. Ave. You have to bear right to stay on Newbury instead of getting onto the Mass Pike. Once you do that, you're at Charlesgate less than 30 seconds later.
Cut the driver some slack.

Cut the driver some slack. You’d be tired too if you tried to drive after drinking 14 White Claws. Those pedestrians aren’t gonna run over themselves!

That section of Newbury is not that long, and is generally parked-up on both sides, so it's not particularly wide. Maybe he came across Mass Ave and thought we WAS on the Pike, so he just gunned it and ended up in the river.
