State Police hunt driver they say slammed into a pedestrian on Day Boulevard in South Boston, then kept going

Car wanted for South Boston hit and run

State Police report they are looking for a driver who sent a 60-year-old woman to the hospital with serious injuries Monday morning.

The woman was crossing Day Boulevard in a crosswalk at K Street when the driver of a Lincoln Town Car traveling toward L Street hit her and knocked her to the ground around 7:15 a.m., State Police say.

Subsequent investigation by Troopers indicates that as it fled the area, the car turned left onto L Street and then took an immediate right onto Columbia Road.

State Police say the car is a mid- to late-2000s Town Car, possibly silver or light beige.

The vehicle has dark tint on its rear passenger windows and its rear window, but no tint on the front windows. Also of note, the vehicle sustained damage to its front driver’s side in the crash, and the driver’s sideview mirror was broken off in the impact and was recovered at the scene.

Anybody with information can contact troopers at the South Boston barracks at 617-740-7710.

As our local speedway enthusiasts have shown, no amount of data driven road diet solutions are verboten, police enforcement is useless and we aren't about to ban cars (LOL)

I mean what else can we do, we've tried nothing and were all out of ideas.

EDIT: Sorry Adam, I don't know how I double posted!

But in this particular case I'd be willing to wager the driver doesn't have a valid license to start and the threat of fines isn't much of a deterrent.

More officers on traffic detail would help as it would have increased the chance he was stopped before he hit someone.

... whose driver nearly intentionally ran me and a small child over two streets up the boulevard a year ago. Woman screaming and leaning on the horn as she sped by. If we hadn’t quickly retreated to the sidewalk, she would have killed us.
Day Boulevard almost invites this types of driver behavior.

to control speed-demon drivers like that. I'm admittedly not a resident of Southie, but here's hoping that the police do hunt down that driver who slammed into a pedestrian on Day Boulevard and kept going, make sure he's taken off the road for at least awhile, and gets tried in court, charged with, and imprisoned for hitting a pedestrian and/or manslaughter if the pedestrian dies or has died as a consequence of this particular driver's actions and behaviors.

The ACLU has been fighting for years to keep them out of Massachusetts. Identifying killer drivers is great, but the civil liberty to ignore traffic laws with impunity is paramount.

If this driver wouldn't stop for a pedestrian in front of their car, and to avoid a collision which broke off their mirror, why would they stop for a potential ticket in the mail a few weeks later?

I'd rather have police enforce distracted and aggressive driving. They're what's actually dangerous. But they can't be enforced by cameras, so there's no money to be made by camera companies and their lobbyists.

In Paris or Barcelona, you'll never see a driver leaning on the horn because a pedestrian is making use of a crosswalk. Yet it happens here. And more so in New York, where they have more and more red light and speed cameras.

Maybe authorities should revert to the old-fashioned idea of having cops on the beats, to enforce the traffic laws so that these kind of accidents won't happen any more.

If you are a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk with the right of way, cars are going to hit you.

WTF don't these walkers understand about this!?!?

the cops do not enforce the existing laws. All you have to do is look at how many tickets they give for moving violations in a certain area. Divide that by 365 days and the amount is minuscule. With the exception of when they saturated Southie with traffic enforcement after someone lost their life on L Street.
