Northeastern says it will provide daily coronavirus updates

Northeastern has set up a Covid-19 dashboard to post daily updates on its testing and positivity numbers. Like BU, Northeastern's set up its own testing lab, able to handle up to 5,000 tests a day.

Since Monday, the school has conducted 4,098 tests, with just one coming back positive. It's turned its Cabot gym into the main campus testing site with 48 self-swabbing stations open 12 horus a day on weekdays and 8 hours a day on weekends.

Northeastern is requiring any students coming to Boston this fall to take at least three tests over five days before they're allowed on campus and to then take a test every five days if they come onto campus at all.

BU: https://www.bu.edu/healthway/community-dashboard/
Broad (Harvard, MIT, lots of other schools): https://covid19-testing.broadinstitute.org/

All of these places are well, well below the state averages. They are all under 1% of tests being positive. (Broad's total positive rate is 4% but that includes data from the peak months ago. Recent tests are much less.)

They are doing the right thing. Test EVERYONE often. Isolate those who are positive. That's how you greatly slow the spread.

What is BC doing in terms of testing?

Here.

All returning students will have to be test on arrival - and remain in quarantine until they get results. After that, unlike BU and Northeastern, which will require all students to get tested periodically (every 5 days at Northeastern), BC will be doing "high-contact, randomized surveillance testing each week" of asymptomatic students, in addition to testing of people who report symptoms.

Like Northeastern, BC has a dashboard - this week, they've found 2 positives among 5,448 tests.

even one or two people in a population who test positive is too goddamned many.

Study up on measles or mumps.

One or two per 5,000 is not that bad. It's what happens when the one or two are found out that is the issue. That's how the virus can be tackled.

Just saying. The updates will be appreciated. Northeastern is down in the valley but college students tend to travel.

A lot of college students don't give a shit who they sicken or even kill by the Covid-19 virus. That's why a great many of them tend to flaunt the mask-wearing and the social distancing rules with impunity. It's disgusting.

College students are no worse then the general public. I went to vote early this morning and half the poll workers didn't have their nose covered. At least the students are being tested.

for that matter) the right to flaunt the rules of mask-wearing, social distancing, and against large gatherings of people, which, unfortunately, an awful lot of them do.
