Mary Ellen spotted a king eider, usually seen farther north, in the water off Castle Island this morning.

Gorgeous!
The seabird-watching at Castle Island can be very good. ‘Saw a loon there the other day and I don’t mean the human kind.
I saw a flock of these swimming just east of the causeway
enclosing Pleasure Bay at Castle Island earlier today, wondered what the heck they were, as I'd never seen one before. Nice to have them IDed here!

Thinking of Al
In Sept '19, we took a 3-night windjammer cruise from Rockland ME. On the boat was an amazing 90+ yo guy that was an avid birder and wanted desperately to see a King Eider. Never saw one. After the cruise, we ended up at the King Eider Pub in Damariscotta and I sent him a picture of it.
Thinking of you, Al.
Now that’s good eating.
