Let me put on my surprised face.

So the guy did dump the ballots but thankfully they were recovered?

If you read the somewhat confused USPS statement, it sound like somebody might have dumped out some campaign mailers, but NOT ballots. Still not good, but not quite the same.

So the postal worker just saved them the bother.

From the linked story:

Attributed to USPS spokesperson Steve Doherty

Regarding mail in South Boston, the Postal Service is aware of allegations of mishandling of mail, including some pieces of Political Mail, by an employee. No Election Mail, specifically ballots or ballot materials, were involved. All campaign mailpieces were recovered and returned to the mailstream.

I figured it was worth highlighting that there was election-related mail that was mishandled, but not actual "election mail" which would include ballots. So the allegations of ballots being mishandled is hopefully more of a mistaken detail rather than an outright fabrication.

On Saturday, two Boston City Councilors said they’ve received complaints from residents who have not yet received the ballots they need to vote in Tuesday’s election.

Okay, when I first saw this story yesterday I wondered whether this was the real complaint, and I suspect it is a City of Boston problem rather than a USPS problem. We got forms back in August or so to request mail-in ballots, completed and returned them in plenty of time for the primary, and never got ballots for either the primary or the final election.

On the Massachusetts “Track My Ballot” site? https://www.sec.state.ma.us/wheredoivotema/track/trackmyballot.aspx That should indicate whether they received your original ballot request, and whether there might have been a processing issue with it. My mother-in-law was not getting her ballots last year because her town (not Boston) hadn’t correctly processed her voter registration address change within town, and the Track My Ballot site listed her request with some useful failure info so at least we knew it was a town issue and not a USPS issue.

I did. My primary vote was accepted but there's nothing about my request to vote by mail. I haven't changed address or had any other changes in my registration, either.

Which candidate's (or candidates') mailers were involved?

What was the mail carriers motivation?

Who, exactly, started the seemingly inaccurate (and semi libelous ?) story that it was ballots? And will they apologize?

I hope no one is going to suggest that Michael Flaherty and Ed Flynn would speak anything other than the truth and nothing but the truth.

to scare the old timers in Southie to vote for Anissa - just enough truth to defend saying it, close enough to the election that the voters might not see the explanation of what really happened. they campaign on fear (caravans of ISIS heading for the border, Ebola going to kill us all).
