In response to a photo of the longest line yet at the Anna Cole testing site in Jackson Square today (people started lining up more than an hour before it even opened), Mayor Wu tweeted tonight:
This is completely unacceptable. The team & I are huddling tomorrow right after inauguration to set immediate next steps for expanding testing & improving the experience at each site—will report back! https://t.co/R22L43jg59

Right after inauguration.

Right after inauguration.
And she quote tweeted a tweet slamming the governor.

As if the governor is responsible for testing in the city. Maybe Janey and Wu haven’t been suitably focused on the issue, despite overwhelming evidence that cases were going to explode over the holidays.

She kinda has to do that. Its process to hand over control from Janey.
Of course this could be made into a quick 5 min ceremony but ya know a lot of planning went into this already.
I give props to Wu for even thinking about this over the weekend. Just means her mind is always working.

Wu has been Mayor of Boston since mid-November. This swearing in is the essence of window dressing. What she will do tomorrow could just as easily be done in her office with her and the City Clerk as it will be to do it in a crowded auditorium during a pandemic. But I am sure she has been thinking about this.
OK fine good

She should have called a 9AM meeting Monday at 9PM on Sunday in order to get it in before the inauguration at 10am, which isn’t even for her because she was already sworn in. I assume it is customary for the mayor to attend the swearing in of city councilors.
Plus, she's already committed Monday morning

You notice how they postponed the inauguration party until the spring - and how the inauguration itself will be held outdoors?
I wrote about it and everything, was surprised you didn't pop up to show your admiration of the move.

Wu was the one swearing people in

If you look at today's post, Wu was the one swearing in the new city councilors. Not like she was sitting around watching while sipping champagne.
And somehow I don't think having a meeting a couple of hours later, which gives attendees time to prepare and come up with suggestions for handling things, is such a terrible idea.
Were they preparing this

I guess when there are no lines in a few weeks time, she can claim victory, I suppose. Unless Baker takes credit before Wu does for what will happen naturally.
I will say this- if there is a real plan in place by Tuesday, she will deserve a huge amount of credit.
Admirable. We need more

Admirable. We need more mayors like this to unpack those boxes. Also someone to be in charge of covid response strategic planning at the city hall. For the next wave.

Here, I'll help you.
I don't give a rat's ass that the bot isn't from Boston (and apparently does not visit or work there either). I do find it contemptible that it acts like it has skin in the game regarding Boston city government.
Let me put it to you this way

Neither of you have a skin in the game, so why does it bother you that a fellow non-Bostonian is griping about the goings on in my city?
I'd be willing to bet that your fellow troll lives a hair closer to Boston then you do, but then again most of the population of New Hampshire can say the same.

NotFromBoston trolls. I call bullshit when it does.
These are not the same thing.
Come back when you've figured it out.
That's possible, but I'd be willing to bet that I'm actually in Boston more than it is.

We are vaxxed at like a 75% rate (herd immunity, our leaders told us), the shots are safe and effective, vax mandates are sure to work and keep the filthy unvaxxed bastards away.
I don’t get what you mean by next wave.
Janey handed her a hollowed
By Rob P

Janey handed her a hollowed out city government with zero preparation for the obvious winter surge coming, even before Omicron was a thing. Not Wu's fault there. Meanwhile Wu stans on twitter want to blame Baker but this a city-run testing site. Time to get in the game, Mayor Wu, and clean up Janey's mess.
Tweets Aren't Action

I don't care about a Tweet, I don't care about "huddling", I don't care about your team, I don't care who you are or what your political affiliation is. I care about action. Show us some action being taken because the lines I saw when I went past a testing site the week before Christmas will live on in my head as a shining example of how our local government fails us.
Stop "huddling" start doing.
well, you kinda do care though

i mean, how would you know she was doing anything if she didn’t tell you she was doing it? i also thought the complaint with her was that she’s *too* ambitious in what she wants to accomplish as mayor?

I want to like Wu. I used to be a big fan. But she makes it hard when she promises things she cannot deliver.

But I'd prefer a response that is actually thoughtful and useful, even if that takes some time. Call me crazy, but I think it's fairly reasonable that it may take slightly more than 24 hours to come up with a quality response here.
What happened at the "huddle"?

I'd prefer honesty. Fault Baker all one wants, but he's honest about what the state is doing, wants to do, and the gap between the two. Baker isn't claiming that the state will be doubling the number of tests available or any pie in the sky answers like that. He notes that the state is at capacity for testing and asking people to patient. Meanwhile, Wu says that the situation is unacceptable and that she will be working on it second thing in the morning (as the first thing was something she was required to do per the city charter, I'll give her making it second thing,) yet here we are, with the same situation we had on Sunday. If she had a response yesterday that couldn't be put into action for a few days, at least things would be on a path. As it is, as I cynically noted 2 days ago, the demand for testing will slacken in a few weeks and she will take credit for the lines getting smaller.
