Candidate for New Hampshire governor launches campaign by whining about Massachusetts

Somebody who wants to be the next governor of the Granite State declared her candidacy yesterday:

I’m running for governor because New Hampshire is one election away from becoming Massachusetts – from becoming something we are not.

To which one observer replied:

The Bay State outranks its neighbor to the north in median income, educational attainment, health care, and, as Massholes will gleefully point out, professional sports championships.

Also: We have legalized marijuana and they don't.

Maybe she should campaign on building a wall. People seem to like having their taxes spent on that.

They require a coordinated effort to build.

Which you are welcome to buy and required to promptly remove to a neighboring state. None of said states allow personal possession or use of fireworks. Part of NH's Good Neighbor policy.

One can use fireworks in NH as long as it's on your own property or on property on which you have written permission to use them, and as long as your municipality allows the use of fireworks.

None of those conditions apply to me, or apparently to any of the boneheads who light them off around here.

The Bay State also outranks its neighbor in murders, poverty rate, homelessness, and deficient bridges.

Plus you have to wonder how many MA pro sports teams really are NH teams based on the number of fans attending the games...

Are you sure you're not mixing absolute numbers with percentages?

New Hampshire has a population of about 1.4 million and 15 recorded murders in 2021; Massachusetts has about 7 million people and 160 murders, so we've got over twice the murder rate of NH.

Those sports teams are Massachusetts teams because they play their home games in Massachusetts. And people people who live in New Hampshire come to Boston for entertainment, including baseball, basketball, and football games.

Not all teams use their actual locations in their names: the "New York" Jets and Giants play in East Rutherford, New Jersey. But the Boston Bruins, Red Sox, and Giants are Boston teams, and the New England Patriots are also a Massachusetts team.

You mean the state that provides NH with revenue via liquor and fireworks, and gainful employment for a nontrivial percentage of NH residents?

Then there is the economic impact of bordering Massachusetts:

Access to job opportunities in neighboring states, particularly in Massachusetts, has had a significant impact on the New Hampshire economy. The relative proximity to metropolitan Boston characteristic of communities in southeastern New Hampshire contributes to higher incomes and more urbanization in those areas, spurring more economic activity and employment growth.

[...] The minimum wage in New Hampshire is the lowest amount an employer can legally pay their employees in most situations

So tired of NH folk whining about Massachusetts all day long. I live near the border, and my street is lousy with NH plates at all hours of the day, but most especially during rush hour. If you get to come here for your jobs and your beloved sporting events and your world-class hospitals and all the rest, you don't get to b*tch about it.
