Somebody's trying to get the city's goat

Goat on a city street, just not a Boston street

Somebody with access to both graphics and AI apps has now filed three alleged 311 complaints about loose goats on the streets of Boston, except, as 311 noted in closing a complaint with the above photo of a "wet and smelly" goat allegedly at Chestnut and Brimmer streets on Beacon Hill, that's not Chestnut and Brimmer streets on Beacon Hill.

The photo bears an interesting similarity to A Photo of a Goat on the Street of a Major City During the Day, right down to the camera angle, only it's an AI-generated image that can be yours to use and enjoy for just $79.99.

Another complaint purports to be about a supposed trash-eating goat at 30 Pond St. in Dorchester, only the photo was composed in a photo editor by somebody who needs to do a better job of cropping the goat from one image and putting it on another:

Alleged goat with trash in Dorchester

311 marked it closed:

Nothing found curbside during Inspections, no signs of goats.

The same alleged goat was allegedly also spotted outside the Friends of the Public Garden office on Beacon Street at Charles Street:

Alleged goat on Beacon Street

311 closed the complaint with a note that it was "not an Environmental Services issue."

What kind of bleeting heart would let their animal wander? Goat to be kidding me.

…. turkey territory.

Baaaaahnish them!

Let a goat loose near my house. Although I could be a jerk about it...?

Preparations for the Army Navy game are underway.

In the spirit of the game, Go Navy, Beat Army.

Adorable.

… for decades. They are harmless. Unlike wild turkeys.

What’s the big deal?

Besides they make excellent street cleaners after trash day.

moved to Tampa a few years ago?

how to handle rats never mind goats.

Publicizing these shenanigans is only going to encourage others to do likewise, degrading the effectiveness of 311 and wasting tax dollars.

Has shown an impressive ability to deal with spamming, first with the hundreds of angry rants from people who hated Michelle Wu and Covid-19 vaccines, more recently with people flooding the system with complaints about Gaza, so I think they'll be OK with three faux goats.

Can be such jackasses

Not a jackass , it’s a billy.

I said people can be jackasses, not billy goats.

Looks like a WPI prank, except maybe not—those kids are better at this sort of AI stuff. I’ll bet.

.

The city should have posted an AI image of a slaughtered goat carcass with the reply, all set.

Don't they do sacrifices?

What are Environmental Services issues? Is idling for hours on end one of them?

"Goat leaving trash around" might be an environmental services issue. Removing trash from the street isn't, even if the trash-remover is a goat rather than a human, and even if the goat is eating the trash.

But don't send the city the vet bill, if the goat manages to find something unsafe to eat. Unsafe for a goat, I mean: real goats can and will eat poison ivy, and I will assume imaginary goats can too.

Tom Brady?

the moose.

AI images are usually hilariously bad at reality. For example, in the Beacon Hill Goat pic:

  • The parked cars are on the sidewalk
  • The closest traffic light only has 2 lights and they are telescoping and not pointed at an intersection
  • The people on the left side of the street are all midgets or the people on the right are all giants
  • The green light on the left is hanging off the building, not a traffic post
  • The brickwork around the green light is just missing...but the cementwork from below is filling the space for it

You are not from here, are you?

I wrote that as a setup. ;)
