Little Bo Peep, report to Millennium Park!
By adamg on Fri, 10/25/2024 - 11:59am
Mary Ellen spotted a different kind of creature on her morning walk around Millennium Park this morning: This little lost sheep. Little Bo Peep, or perhaps Shari Lewis, will find Lamb Chop on a railing along the lower path, just past the first bridge into the woods heading towards the kayak launch and the lower parking lot.

I miss Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop!
I loved her when I was a kid back in the 1960s and it was a joy that she returned right as my kid was the right age for her show. So rare for there to be something that both of us shared (Sesame Street didn't arrive until I was too old for it).
Here's a blast from your past...
Kukla, Fran & Ollie.
Good times!
Shari's daughter Mallory
Shari's daughter Mallory Lewis has kept Lamb Chop going, too, though only as live performances so far because DreamWorks owns the media rights.

I was a "Romper Room" fan. A kids TV show that came on before your parent would take you to kindergarten. Shari Lewis and Captain Kangaroo were for those days when you might be home sick, or school was cancelled. Ms. Jean made me a Do-Bee, Shari Lewis was the best ventriloquist out there and Captain Kangaroo was just wild!

R.I.P to both of those lovely Baby Boomer role models, and the world would be a better place if we still had Captain Kangaroo!
Loved Captain Kangaroo
I think Mr Rogers sort of picked up some of the slack after CK retired -- but there was an offbeat goofiness on CK that was missing in Mr Rogers' neighborhood. (Rememeber Tom Terrific, Mighty Manfred and Crabby Appleton).
I only remember Shari Lewis from Saturday mornings... (pretty adorable).
We had our own Romper Room hostess in Tulsa, I believe -- but I forget her name. (Stretch, stretch, reach for the stars...).
Did you know
Did you know that several staffers from Captain Kangaroo left the show in the late 60s or early 70s to go work on Mister Rogers Neighborhood. They left because they wanted to be more educational and CK was more 'kids fun' television.
Thats why Mister Rogers Neighborhood differed from CK. The focus was on learning and education, than just childrens entertainment.
Miss Nancy? @Michael Kerpan

Depends on how old you are.
Captain Kangaroo was all about little kids entertainment.
Mr. Moose's Ping Pong Ball Drop!

Sounds right. That's my era....
Lots of fun stuff on CK, but I would disagree that it was "all about" entertainment. ;-)
