Police: Cape man goes on two-hour terror spree across Fort Hill

BakerA Centerville man who tried pulling one woman into his Jeep, then broke into another woman's apartment, led police on a short chase that ended with him hitting a cruiser then trying to run away and finally struggling with officers as he refused to let go of a knife, police say.

Christopher Baker, 43, was charged with attempted kidnapping, home invasion, armed breaking and entering of a dwelling house, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, operating after license revocation and failing to stop for police officers following a two-hour hunt across Roxbury's Fort Hill neighborhood.

Police say Baker's one-man assault on the neighborhood began shortly after 8 p.m. when he jumped out of his Jeep on Marecella Street near Ritiche, grabbed a woman he'd been slowly following and tried to stuff her into his Jeep. He fled after she began screaming, police said.

Later, a woman reported Baker had forced his way inside her home:

The victim stated that while the suspect was inside, he pointed a knife at her in a threatening manner. The victim retreated to back room in fear of her safety. The victim stated to officers that she started to scream and the suspect left.

Police said another resident also reported seeing somebody who looked like Baker attempting to break into his home on Fort Avenue.

Around 10:10, police say, officers spotted Baker's Jeep at Cedar Street and Highland Avenue, and tried to bring it to a stop at Cedar and Hawthorne.

Officers approached the motor vehicle on the passenger side and observed the motor vehicle come out of reverse and suddenly change its direction. Officers observed the Jeep now moving forward and refusing to stop for officers.

Officers continued to maintain sight of the Jeep as it drove erratically and without caution.

Officers observed the Jeep come to a stop on Thwing Street. Officers then observed suspect attempt to exit the motor vehicle and the driver's side door of the Jeep struck a police vehicle.

Officers observed the suspect run down a steep hill, leading out to Centre Street. Officers pursued the suspect and were able to catch up to the suspect in a yard on Centre Street. The suspect violently struggled with officers. Officers issued verbal commands to stop several times and the suspect did not comply.

During the struggle with the suspect, officers observed the suspect to have a silver folding knife in his left hand. The suspect continued to disregard officers' verbal commands and after another violent struggle was taken into custody.

One officer was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital with minor injuries, police say.

Innocent, etc.
