By adamg on Thu, 11/26/2015 - 9:06am
UPDATE: WBZ identifies the victim as Jephthe Chery, a Keolis commuter-rail conductor.
Boston Police report a man in his late 20s was shot dead around 2 a.m. outside Who's on First, 19 Yawkey Way.
Three other men, also in their late 20s, were taken to local hospitals with injuries that did not appear life threatening, police say.
Two women were shot outside the bar on Sept. 6.

Wish the police had a unit
Wish the police had a unit that was in charge of doing inspections at all the bars.
If there was such a unit, I bet when they did their job, the readers of this site would be thankful for them!
Or...
Or the bar didn't do anything really wrong that an inspection would have caught.
Maybe.
Or.. the bar sucks.
Or.. the bar sucks.
"Walsh said officials will convene a meeting as soon as today to discuss the venue and "certainly next week with the licensing board about looking at this venue." The bar's owner could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Evans said Who's On First has been "nothing but a headache" for some time, and noted it was the site of a shooting earlier in the fall.
On Sept. 6, two women in their 20s, had attended "a large event" at Who's On First when they suffered non-life-threatening injuries from gunfire.
Early Thanksgiving morning, Evans said, a sergeant had checked on the venue about an hour before the shooting and a cruiser was parked at the corner.
"So we were like 20 yards away when those shots rang out, so it's so brazen that they (don't) care whether a police car is there or not, and that's what troubles me," Evans said."
It doesn't surprise me. This
It doesn't surprise me. This place always brings a shady crowd.
Last Time
Last time a cop did that was 73 years ago when the captain of District 4 walked into the Melody lounge at the Coconut Grove nightclub on Piedmont Street.
Actually, the Patrol Supervisors in the districts does the license /premise checks of bars and taverns, etc. In addition, the Boston Fire has nightclub inspectors which has broad powers due to the above mentioned incident.
Sounds like trouble.
Sounds like trouble.
Thank you to the BPD for
Thank you to the BPD for being out there today, and last night. I know it's tough right now, but I want to thank you for being away from your families on Thanksgiving, and at a quadruple shooting no less. It must be tough to see something like that on a normal day, but I imagine even more so on a holiday. The news has been covering this pretty well, and it seems like some of you have been working around the clock.
I'm thankful for you officers.
Why does the police and media omit crowd descriptions
or just facts like being a hip hop music night? That would make the general public feel safer if they frequent the Fenway area but not those events.
The mother of the dead man claims he was just an innocent bystander. So, knowing to steer clear of these events is good to know too.
Because not everyone is a
Because not everyone is a complete racist that needs such details.
You are perpetuating racism.
You are perpetuating racism. Why are you assuming that hip hop is not loved by all races? Christ, when I hear a classic old school hip hop, a smile comes over me, it brings happy memories of when dancing didn't hurt my now-arthritic joints. Condolences to the young mans's family.
Northern C
Hip hop doesn't automatically = African American. I grew up in the inner city and was/ is a huge hip hop and rap fan.
You are the racist
By setting different standards of secrecy depending on the race of those involved. I want the same details for a shooting or stabbing, no matter the races of those involved. The man killed was an innocent bystander. If he had known the risk associated with the gathering he attended, he could have spent Thanksgiving with his family instead of them making funeral arrangements for him. Sorry you think that's racist.

What secrecy? Go down to the
What secrecy? Go down to the club and find out for yourself, Mark. There's no state secrecy act stopping you.
Just because you want people to do stupid stuff, it does not follow that if they don't, they are keeping secrets.
What BS. Is no one allowed
What BS. Is no one allowed to dance? Unfortunately, in America, people get shot just for being out in public. Avoiding hip hop might make you feel that you're beating the odds, but you aren't.
Oh yeah, gangbangers shootin' up ballroom competitions
E-tards gettin' all ragey instead of chilling in a cool down room? You are not fooling anyone - more violence happens at hip-hop and rap events than any other type of (current*) music genre. I suppose a hardcore NDH show full of skinheads could also get rough, but there too, people should expect it could get violent if they choose to attend.
People in America should not and do not expect to get shot for being out in public, at least in my neighborhood.
* Back in the day, punk and industrial shows/clubs sometimes got a little bloody, especially in the mosh pit, sometimes fist fights too. Not guns. Angst filled music does that.

Interesting, you seem to
Interesting, you seem to think that hip-hop and ballroom dance are diametrically opposed to each other: https://www.google.com/#q=hip+hop+in+ballroom+dance
Because
Such information is totally and completely irrelevant.
Naming the performer seems relevant to me
We know that the Altamont murder happened while the Rolling Stones were performing. We know that a stampede in Cincinnati happened during a concert by The Who. So I don't see what is "irrelevant" about naming or describing the performing act when such an incident occurs.
why?
"or just facts like being a hip hop music night? That would make the general public feel safer"
Funny how you say "hip hop music night", I mean im pretty sure a shooter has no preference of music type. Rowdy teens at a rock concert make me a little more uneasy, just saying.
Condolences to Mr. Chery's
Condolences to Mr. Chery's family.
RIP Monsieur Chery
And best wishes to the other victims.
Good kid
I grew up seeing j. All the time in hyde park, always going to work or going to work out ... Always smiling. I'm positive it wasn't meant for him. So terribly sad. I can't even imagine him getting into a verbal altercation.
Sad
You're right. Sounds like he was headed to work and got caught in gunfire intended for others. So sad for his family. Hope BPD catches whoever did this.
The victim's family has been getting lots of press
Which I think is a great thing. Hopefully gang bangers will value black lives as much as police and others do and not shoot up crowds of people without regard to who they hit.
