Man's assignation with a prostitute at a Back Bay hotel ends with him robbed at knifepoint and the woman and another man under arrest, DA says

A woman from the Bronx faces armed-robbery charges and her male companion from Lawrence faces gun charges after she robbed a man who'd contacted them via a Web page for some paid sex at the Back Bay Hilton last week, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

At her arraignment Friday, Danine Simpson, 27, of the Bronx, had bail set at $1,500. Robert Santana, 28, of Larence, was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing this Thursday on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, illegal possession of a loaded firearm and illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine, the DA's office says.

The DA's office says the two didn't get far with their money after Simpson let the man into her room, then displayed a knife instead of a heart of gold, shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday:

Officers met with a man who stated he had been informed about a sex for fee service and then contacted a female on a website and arranged a meeting on the 23rd floor of the hotel. The man said Simpson called him into her room when he arrived, brandished a knife and ordered him to hand over $200. The man handed the money over and then reported the incident to the hotel lobby. Officers arrived on scene and the man identified Simpson as the person who robbed him.

When officers set up initial surveillance of the room they observed a man exit and walk away from officers. When officers stopped the man, later identified as Santana, he tried to back away and started to profusely sweat. Officers conducted a pat frisk for their safety due to the confined quarters and Santana’s actions. In Santana’s fanny pack they found a Glock 9mm handgun loaded with eight rounds.

The armed-robbery victim will be summonsed into court at a later date on a charge of engaging in sexual conduct for a fee, the DA's office says.

Innocent, etc.

Guy from out-of-town, has the money to stay at the Hilton, probably some social standing, job, and family.

Doesn't want this to go on longer than it has to.

The irony might be that the ADA will threaten him with the harshest sentence for the sex-for-a-fee charge in order to coerce him to cooperate against the robbers. Compassion for the victim might be lacking.

Lol, typical police report BS, as if visible sweat pops out of you like it's Looney Tunes. They had probable cause anyways, didn't need to add the "acting nervous" bit

It doesn't say where the victim was, but he went to the Hilton and she called him to her room so he very well could be local.

Should have just taken the L. Now it's gonna cost considerably more than $200.

Otherwise they would have gotten away with the crime and continued to rob others. Plus the one held without bail because of all the weapons, good that he’s off the street!

And the DAs office is going to reward and incentivize that behavior by charging him with a crime.

Let see what they end up doing. They may end up dismissing the charges if he continues to do the right thing and testifies in court.

for reporting a violent felony with sentence of life, taking down a ring which had most certainly robbed others, and taking an illegal gun off the street was to be charged with an embarrassing misdemeanor with a fine of $500 or house of correction one year or less.

He should be named as well.
But perhaps not releasing his name yet is part
of a deal to be sure he agrees to testify.

If johns know they will get their name in the papers immediately after reporting these crimes, they won't report the crimes.

At least this time it seems to have little to do with who golfs with whom.

since I thought there was generally a policy (stated or otherwise) of not charging people for lesser crimes when that might discourage people from reporting more serious ones.

Artfully worded press release means he might just be summonsed for a magistrate's hearing in the far future and not present evidence against him in which case no complaint issues, no record.

They could also issue a complaint and then decline to arraign him, in which case there is also no entry on his record.

It's likely going to be a hearing where the victim will get a formal "finger-wagging" about soliciting prostitutes from the court system, possibly from someone wearing a black robe. Then the whole matter regarding him will be closed.

justice is not absolute and in this case very relative

When are we gonna get civilized and legalize prostitution? None of this would have been an issue.

There's no ideal solution when it comes to people selling their bodies.

Places where it's legalized have human trafficking and slavery problems. They also have robberies.

In Massachusetts it's treated very leniently, only after repeat offenses are probation controls imposed.

90% of prostitutes are addicts. The probation is a path to treatment.

The other 10% are so discreet they never get arrested.
