Banker & Tradesman reports Whiskey Priest and the Atlantic Beer Garden would join Jimmy's Harborside and Anthony's Pier 4 as places that used to be under a developer's proposal for a mixed-use tower designed, as these things are, by Elkus Manfredi.

this is a poorly written and stupid article ... there is no info and it is poorly written.

Is it poorly written?
Let's analyze Adam's "reporting"
By Waquiot
Mon, 12/21/2015 - 5:23pm
Does it convey the 5 Ws?
Who? Elkus Manfredi designed a building.
What? A new mixed use tower.
When? Always tough to say when it will open, but it the "article" notes that it has been reported.
Where? On the South Boston Waterfront, where Whiskey Priest and Atlantic Beer Garden currently are.
Why? I've never understood this W. Like most articles about proposed developments, there is an implied answer "to make money."
Yup, for a little blurb with a link to a longer article, Adam hit all the main points.
As for your comment, you provide no explanation as to why it is "poorly written," "stupid," "has no info," and once again "poorly written." I'm sorry. I'm going to have to say it, your comment was bereft of anything to add to the discussion.

I made the mistake of going to both these places.. I felt like I was in Braintree.
The SoBo Waterfront will be better off without these two places. Now if we could just get rid of Remy's then this area will be the perfect destination for Boston's sophisticated class.
Let the bros, townies and suburban sports fans have boylston street, fenway...etc. The SoBo Waterfront should be for the Boston's educated crowd.

bigger picture commentary along the lines of the "boxiness" mentioned in the article and Pier 4, which was a Boston institution. At least this tower doesn't look like crap, and I agree these bars wouldn't be a huge loss.

There is a really, really big gap between stick up your ass martini and getting a Bud Light Lime with a whiff of port o pottie at Atlantic Beer Garden.
There are still plenty of shitty bars where you and your bros can hang out in your white Ralph Lauren hats and multiple popped collar pastel polo shirts.

trust fund kids don't even think of Boston, let alone live in it.
Trust fund kids live in LA, Singapore, Zurich, NYC, London, Oslo...etc.
Just because someone has a decent paying job, uses proper grammar and dresses half way decent doesn't make them a trust fund kid. However I can see why someone who hasn't traveled west of 128 would think that.

to go back? The place smelled like shit. Not figuratively speaking like they hadn't mopped the floors in a week; actual shit. Yes, I am an expert on not going back to bars and restaurants that fit this criteria. I spent over ten years working in restaurants/bars/clubs and it's a telling sign when you encounter something like this. "Hey guys, remember that place we went to that smelled like sticking your head in a sewer? Yeah, let's go back there!" Ok.
I'm not sure what's funnier.

The descriptions of the Whiskey Priest (sewer), or the people who defend the Whiskey Priest against criticism ("It only happened once!").
Not defending them one way or the other
By Stevil

I've never been inside - but was at a restaurant recently whose building had a similar problem - was not the restaurant's fault. Boston Water and Sewer or one of their contractors accidentally plugged up the outlet pipe while doing maintenance and caused a massive problem and huge amounts of damage (not while we were there - I heard about it after the fact).

My point wasn't that these places smell like roses every other day, but it's asinine for Paul to make a blanket statement that two separate bars smell like shit because a toilet backed up one time.

Particularity when they have an ocean view. Not everyone wants to go for a Pinot at Del Friscos. What I find funny is the same people that shit on places like this will later complain that the neighborhood is becoming to gentrified. Obviously the Whiskey Priest crowd isn't well represented here, but I love watching the people that completely dismiss and shit on things that don't directly apply to them at the time and then complain about the results later.

At least it's not a box
By John-W
Mon, 12/21/2015 - 1:30pm
Well, at the very least it's not a box like everything else down there. Still pretty timid design when you think that it still needs to go through the meat grinder process that will force it to become ....a box. Better to go all crazy and then do the inevitable scale-backs. But at least it's a baby step in the right direction.
You want to add an exclamation point to the end of I-90 at the waterfront? You can look to Milwaukee of all places for inspiration:

The fact that we have to look to Milwaukee for more exciting architecture makes baby jesus weep.

I'd bet money that those two places will not find a new home in the Seaport. No skin off my nose. Not my preferred kind of hangout, but I don't see the point in busting on the people who like them. My behavior, dress sense, and the company I've kept in bars going back to my youth would probably not stand up to close scrutiny, either.
Like what you like and go where you like to hang out. Just try not to spill your drink on your fellow patrons, leave before you wear out your welcome, and tip your servers well: it's most often a hard job for not a lot of money, bad hours and no benefits.
