A federal judge today tossed the conspiracy convictions of Kenneth Brissette and Timothy Sullivan in the Boston Calling case, because federal prosecutors failed to show either man received any personal benefit from convincing the music-festival's organizers to hire member of a local union to work the event. WBZ reports police in Boston will issue tickets to anybody spotted smoking pot at this weekend's Boston Calling in Allston - and that police in Cambridge will be on the alert for anybody lighting up on their way to or from the event across the river.

The US Attorney's office in Boston reports Kenneth Brissette, Boston's director of tourism, has been indicted and arrested for "union-related extortion" involving the Boston Calling music festival on City Hall Plaza and the filming of "Top Chef" episodes in Boston.

A Boston Calling attendee charged with punching a police officer who was trying to clear the steps to City Hall Plaza in advance of a second thunderstorm on Saturday was ordered to stay away from the plaza while her case is pending, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The Dig reports on how IBM and the city teamed up on a pilot surveillance program to record every single person who attended the two Boston Calling events at City Hall Plaza last year.

City officials did not extend the program to this year's concerts in part because they couldn't figure out a good public-safety need to do so. Also, the Dig reports, the city hasn't come up with any privacy policies for all those photos.

Brian Appel, co-founder of Boston Calling, is scheduled to appear before the Mayor's Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing on March 12 to seek licenses for both the already announced May 23-25 music festival on City Hall Plaza and for a second weekend of music Sept. 5-7, also on City Hall Plaza.

The application does not specify band names.

The hearing starts at 10 a.m. in the office's eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

There's another Boston Calling festival coming up on Sept. 7 and 8 on City Hall Plaza, this time featuring Berklee's own Passion Pit, among others.
