In response to somebody's query about what exactly "moderate" means when he's been sitting on a trolley that hasn't moved in ten minutes, the T added:

Yes, we describe a "moderate" delay as a major disruption in service.

According to my #mbta driver, there's a "wire problem" at Arlington. Been stopped at kenmore inbound for 10+ minutes..

"Moderate" is NOT the same as "major". Look up the definitions of both words and you'll understand why. As I noted in another post, the old system of stating "delays of X to Y minutes" is far more useful, because it's far less ambigious.

From what I remember years ago (around 2007 or so), they had a policy of refunding your money if they were more than 30 minutes late. So those to-the-minute delays they published were always "of ... to 25 minutes." Many, many times I would get home after a 45-minute-late train to find a "25 minute" delay published on their website. No use at all if they're going to be dishonest to get around their own customer service policies. I'd rather have no information than wrong.

Instead of using vague terms like "minor', 'moderate', and 'severe' in your alerts, why not use time frames - like you used to do in your alerts before you wasted $500K installing your 'updated' alert system.

Minor delay - we're almost at our terminus anyway - get off and walk

Moderate delay - we're going to be here a while - so we'll open the doors and you might as well walk

Major delay - we're going to be here a while and we won't open the doors - you are our prisoner in this rodent infested tunnel - and we're not talking dead hamsters (and it's not a federal offense because we are a public service agency)

Or something like that.

West Roxbury, Roslindale, Southie - we all need and deserve parking for our cars as the MBTA simply can't be trusted to get us to work. It's just common sense people. A few more common sense ideas to improve traffic in the city.

Step 1 - add two more lanes to Storrow Drive by removing the yuppie littered riverside paths which are also known haunts for criminals.

Step 2 - Can we convert the Orange Line into highway as was originally intended? I think a nice 4 lane expressway would do wonders for alleviating dangerous traffic on the Jamaica Way. It's already been cleared of housing, mostly.

Step 3 - There's a parking garage under the Common, why not also the Garden? Why are we giving over valuable space to geese and swans?

Step 4 - If a 4-5 story parking garage was built at the Arborway Yards, that would also help as some people, who don't want to use the new expressway, can at least drive to Forrest Hill before taking the Express Orange line (not stopping in dangerous neighborhoods!) into the city.

We could really relieve some traffic congestion by putting a highway on top of the downtown tunnel, where those undersize and under-utilized park are. No-one lives down there anywhere so no harm, no foul.

Replace the overpass with a 5 story strech of garage and put the overpass road through it. Significant improvements with cheap "zity" parking for practically everyone!

It should be like the garage at Clarendon, but with more exits and entrances.

Forest hills needs to be a landmark for more than just hills, or forest. Coming off the rotary right into a sunless hell-hole would be just what we need for the area.

But put it on stilts so there's still somewhere for hobos to piss.

Breda is headquartered in Turin, home of the 2006 Winter Olympics. Mind you, they don't get Minnesota cold, but water does freeze in those parts.
