Sometimes it's a race to get a good domain name

Corrected to note that the No group registered its domain first.
Our own John Keith noticed yesterday that when you go to noindycarboston.com, you're immediately redirected to indycarboston.com - and that the "no" domain is registered to Kathryn Norton, a.k.a. Kate Norton, a.k.a. the PR person for the proposed annual car race through the streets around the convention center. The actual No IndyCar Boston is at noindycarboston.org.

I drive like a Bostonian though and Indy car is fun. Lighten up everyone. If this group is so opposed to the temporary closing of public spaces for private profit please let them storm the gates of Boston Calling Memorial Day Weekend and enact their justice.
Please remember that my tax dollars, not just theirs, also helped pay for the cleaning of the harbor, the construction of the convention center, the construction of the Silver Line, the construction of the TWT and a lot of the other things that have gone down into the Seaport. I might actually go watch this race.
If we can have some guy like Lewis Hamilton (though he may not be here) screaming around D Street for a weekend, it is a good thing.
I have two related objections
I have two related objections:
1) A city that just declared Vision Zero should not be promoting an event that glorifies extremely-high-speed driving on city streets.
2) Having to maintain the roads in the Seaport in a form that allows them to be used as a racetrack for the next few years will negatively impact both Vision Zero and Complete Streets (which the city also just declared). You can see the appeal of the roads of the Seaport to IndyCar, but that's something we as a city should be embarrassed by.

Your timeline is backwards
The noindycarboston.com registration is dated yesterday morning, while the noindycarboston.org domain was registered last Wednesday night. This means that the No IndyCar Boston people (side note: does anyone know who they actually are? I have not been able to find a single name attached to their site, letter, or any of the accompanying news stories) chose the .org domain, and Kate Norton snagged the .com address in response.

If Kate was a bit quicker-on-the-draw, she would have also grabbed noindycarboston.org, .gov, .co, .net, and .biz.
I like the idea of Boston branching out and trying things. Events like this can be a blast and do raise the profile of the city, mostly for the better. That said, we need to be totally up-front & transparent regarding the cost and inconvenience involved. To me, the greatest sin of Boston2024 was their utter disrespect for the public, and their outright dishonesty (or very, very rose colored glasses) regarding cost and duration of the prep.

There are so many variations of sites people want to make. You really need to cover them to be a true squatter. .com, .org, .biz,...even .xxx is out there. Who has time for that?
