Roslindale could get late-night Dominican food

Delicias Dominicanas, 635 Hyde Park Ave., goes before the Boston Licensing Board next week for permission to extend its closing time from midnight to 2 a.m.
The board's hearings start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

I await
People complaining about the gall of the restaurant to be open in their neighborhood past 10 pm, while simultaneously bemoaning Boston's lack of being a "world class city" because the T doesn't run late in somebody else's.
car music noise?
Warmer weather is coming. My fear is that this could exacerbate the situation with cars blaring music, to an even later hour.
If the police could increase the ticketing of Rozzie disturbing-the-peace offenders to keep that in check, maybe it wouldn't become an issue.

There was a reason I have two choices for "filters," which, of course, I can't remember, but I should really just delete the "default" option since it clearly doesn't work for the one thing it should work for (but I need to test what happens if I do just delete it before I do, because the software might get testy when confronted with comments with no filter listed).

What do the neighbors think?
There are only a few abutters, but there is one house that is right next to the parking lot.
Since my only interaction with the place is running by it at 9 at night, my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt, but it seems to be a good establishment. They have even closed one of the entrances to their parking lot, to be a good neighbor I am sure. One of my Sunday night run highlights was saying hi to the security guard at the door. I haven't seen one in a while, but that could have something to do with the cold weather bringing him indoors.

That entrance is likely closed to stop drivers from shortcutting the Canterbury / HPA intersection when the light is red.
If you want peace and quiet
If you want peace and quiet get out of the damn city. It's crazy to me that a place has to 'ask for permission' to stay open and its even crazier that there are still people "but what about the noise" and I'm 40 people before anyone thinks yuppie. Bring the noise, it's time this city had actual night life.
I hope they don't stay open later...
... Roslindale is not the place for a "night life". Families live nearby, the avenue is already too congested with traffic, existing problems with parking and this place, formally the Erie Pub, doesn't have much parking to begin with.
Night life needs to stay near or in downtown Boston and not in outer neighborhoods where the potential of drunken driving or further disruption can potentially increase.

There's a train track and a major roadway on two sides of this and then an auto dealer on the other side. There is one single family home behind them (as noted above), but's its not like this is smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood. For example, Brannelly's is much more surrounded by residential property that this place - I don't think that's some huge issue, is it?
Without Night Owl service I also don't buy the argument that people need to drink farther away from home downtown if they want to.

Except for the businesses on the corners of that intersection, this IS a residential neighborhood - there are triple deckers all up and down that stretch of Hyde Park Ave. I live in one of them, and I'm not automatically against this but I'm not totally sure we need anything open that late either...
But it's Hyde Park Avenue
It's a major artery. There are businesses up and down the street, from Forest Hills to Wolcott Square. Yes, there are more commercial areas and parts that are more residential, but it's not as if there are sections where residents are at a distance from businesses. Of the streets where I could see restaurants open after midnight, Hyde Park Ave is one of them.
Of course, if the restaurant in question is not being a good neighbor, screw them, but if they are trying to be respectful of their neighbors, I think their proposal should be heard out.

I live on HP ave. I know exactly where this place is and yes there are families that live nearby. There are triple deckers and houses less than 50 yards (maybe even less than that) down the street and across the street.
I don't frequent Brannelly's but I'm sure the place has its share of problems.
And yet
And yet every major city in the U.S. has families who live in them and don't shut down. NYC, all 5 boroughs L.A. are just two of many that come to mind. From what I see there aren't THAT many family homes in the immediate area and frankly, city limits are city limits. The burbs exist for a reason, your quiet enjoyment.

Brannelly's and the Pleasant Cafe (though they're not open all that late) jump to mind.
So, back to the original statement
Wouldn't a parking lot increase the chances of drunk driving? We know that nobody leaving Brannelly's has been over served....
There are also families living
in Chinatown, on Comm Ave, and next to Fenway. Should we shutter the businesses there when the sun goes down, too? No? Whyever not? Because they're in the city, of course, and when you decide to live in the city, you take the risk of some nefarious ruffian wanting to order tostones near you at 11:30PM. And Roslindale (and JP, and West Roxbury) are also the city. When you address your envelope to 600 Hyde Park Ave, Boston, MA, the mail goes through. If you want bucolic nighttime serenity, go move to Weston. The rest of us want to be able to get our chicharrón de pollo fix.
This is a RESTAURANT, for chrissake. They're not trying to open an artillery range or a racetrack.

Rincon on Fairmount Avenue in Hyde Park serves food and then turns into a night club with music blasting after midnight two or three nights a week and I don't believe there has been a major disruption of the residents that live next to and above it.......I wish Bostonians would lighten up and support things that don't appeal to them in their neighborhoods for the good of all.

Imagine you're a young parent and you somehow got the critter to sleep. You'd be pretty upset if something woke them up, depriving the critter and yourself, of precious rest.
Or what if you got home from a late shift and had 5 hours to crash, but couldn't because the walls were shaking from the bass?

Children don't need peace and quiet; parents only think they do.
When my son was a born, we lived in a densely-packed neighborhood, across the street from a "social club", and next door to a bar, so there was noise all night long. Sure, there were some nights that getting him to bed would be an ordeal, but by and large, he adapted to it, and slept like, well, a baby.
The food is fantastic
I'm a big fan! Staff are friendly. Clean and comfy dining space.
