The Boston Language Institute, which for decades guaranteed Boston subway riders they could learn Swahili, shut down today, not because every Bostonian who has ever wanted to learn Swahili has done so, but because its bank seized its account.
The school, located in the Kenmore Square block a developer plans to remake, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last June, lost its lawyer, then had its bankruptcy case tossed earlier this week for failure to hire a new attorney to compile a formal reorganization plan, after which Century Bank seized its bank account. In a tweet, the school says it hopes to work with the bank to get enough money back to re-open at some point.

Your trip to Swahili, anon? Is that supposed to be a joke or something? Swahili is one of the major languages of the world, spoken by somewhere from 50 to 100 million people, mostly in East Africa.

This is unfortunate. I took a couple Japanese classes with them a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Was hoping to return to it if I ever get off this late shift I'm working now-a-days. Hopefully they'll be able to reorganize and reopen.
