Police: Guy tried shooting two other guys on Mission Hill, but missed

Boston Police reports arresting two men after they apparently tried to gun down a couple of other guys on Halleck Street on Mission Hill around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

On arrival, officers spoke to witnesses in the area who stated the gunshots had come from the area of Station Street. Further, witnesses stated the two suspects exited a dark sedan and began shooting at two unknown male victims who were walking on Halleck Street before returning to their vehicle and fleeing the area. Officers searched the area and located ballistic evidence on Station Street, but were unable to locate the suspects or any victims.

Officers continued to canvass the area when they observed a black sedan, matching the description of the vehicle the suspects were operating, exit a parking lot on Gurney Street approximately two blocks from where the ballistic evidence was located. Officers activated their emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Smith Street and Parker Street in Roxbury. Officers removed the operator and the passenger from the vehicle and subsequently located a firearm under the passenger’s seat.

Dominick Whitlow Douglas, 28, the driver, and Tevin Abercrombie, 25, were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm on a public way and possession of a firearm with an altered or defaced serial number, police say.

Innocent, etc.

Adam, you'll have a better sense of this than those of us in the peanut gallery. Are there more of these shootings/near shootings in the past month or so, or so little other crime that they just seem to stand out more? I find both equally plausible...

There’s more. There’s a couple pretty active gang feuds going on.

Adam does a great job, arguably the best in Boston, but even he doesn’t report on all the shootings. The true numbers are terrifying.

But there's a lot less other news to distract from it, once you subtract all the coronavirus stories - I mean, it seems like pretty much all I write about now is either coronavirus or shootings/stabbings, so it seems worse.

I haven't looked at the stats, but WBUR did and, well:

Gross noted that violent crime stats are up, "but it's not astronomical".

For those inclined to skip the article:

""For those that are living in communities that are disadvantaged, we're still poor," Cannon-Grant said.

Police have also noticed a few changes in the types of incidents that happen, now that so many people are staying home. Vehicle break-ins are up. Residential break-ins are down."

On top of the grotesque racial disparities on who is dying from Covid-19...

I'd like to think we'll come out of this all more sensitive to our neighbors who are less advantaged than we are. A girl can hope.

I approve the sentiment but I'm old enough to know it won't happen.
