One-time Red Line commuter to resign from country's top post
By adamg on Thu, 07/07/2022 - 10:53am
As Garrett Quinn reminds us, there's always a Massachusetts connection. In 2015, then London Mayor Boris Johnson came to town for some conference at Harvard, and got on the Red Line for the trip across the river. But it was the middle of one of our blizzards that year, so he wound up having a chat with some random chap at Park Street.

And The Stink....
Still has left Park Street Under.
I hope this fop has a terrible life moving forward.
Defenestration
Yes, my gut tells me he is in significant legal jeopardy.
How about
A positive spin? Let’s wish him all the best and hope he will learn from his myriad blunders and become a better person in the future.
He's 58 years old
And he's been an lying a-hole for his entire life. I think it is unlikely that he will become a better person.
We might also wish the same …
… for the writer of the comment. Tee hee!
Welcome back, Lee
Haven’t seen you post in a while. Hope you’re doing ok
Thank you, robo.
All is good. Just been extra busy these past few weeks.
I hope you’re enjoying the summer!
I am. Can’t beat this weather!
Cheers!
Glad to see
more conservative politicians like Boris use public transport, and bikes too.
Um
I see you have fallen for the fallacy that this Upper Class Twit takes public transportation when there isn't a camera around.
It's a shame we never built the Seaport gondola
Very funny! On the plus side
Very funny! On the plus side and unlike our previous president, this guy provided some good laughable moments and he knows how to make the best of an embarrassing situation.
There is this great quote in today's NYT: "One of his predecessors described him as a “greased piglet”: a man who could slip out of any tight situation."
He perfected the "doofus everyman" look
He is much more crafty and scheming than he appears and he used that to his advantage. He had a way of connecting with working class Brits in a way that American Democrats should really study. He was good at laughing at himself and not appearing to talk down to the people who supported him.
He wasn't unlike Menino, personality wise.
Love the photo
and the connection. Wish we knew what Boris was talking about but the guy listening has a great expression.
Peppa Pig
He was no doubt expressing his love for Peppa Pig and encouraging the chap to visit Peppa Pig World.
meow
Larry the Cat for PM!
Another curious semi-local detail
Boris was born a US citizen (his parents were living here while his father attended Columbia), and he retained it until sometime within the past 10 years.
In 2015 he settled a tax bill with the IRS for capital gains on the sale of a London apartment--the US is uniquely aggressive in asserting domain over citizens' earnings globally--even though he hadn't lived here since the age of 5. Were it not for that, he might well have become the second Tory PM with US citizenship, and the first to be elected with it.
Meanwhile, in New York
seems kinda' dangerous for a
seems kinda' dangerous for a prime minister to just be in a crowded subway without secret service protection. what if there is an attempt at his life and innocent civillions get injured.
He was Mayor of London at the time
But regardless, I'd more concerned about starting an international incident when he got stuck on a broken train than I would be for others to be hurt in an attempted assassination.
International incident you say?
Oh, that almost happened, when the British government got mad at then Mayor Walsh for not canceling his vacation plans to receive Johnson.
