One-time Red Line commuter to resign from country's top post

As Garrett Quinn reminds us, there's always a Massachusetts connection. In 2015, then London Mayor Boris Johnson came to town for some conference at Harvard, and got on the Red Line for the trip across the river. But it was the middle of one of our blizzards that year, so he wound up having a chat with some random chap at Park Street.

Very funny! On the plus side and unlike our previous president, this guy provided some good laughable moments and he knows how to make the best of an embarrassing situation.
There is this great quote in today's NYT: "One of his predecessors described him as a “greased piglet”: a man who could slip out of any tight situation."
He perfected the "doofus everyman" look
He is much more crafty and scheming than he appears and he used that to his advantage. He had a way of connecting with working class Brits in a way that American Democrats should really study. He was good at laughing at himself and not appearing to talk down to the people who supported him.
He wasn't unlike Menino, personality wise.

Another curious semi-local detail
Boris was born a US citizen (his parents were living here while his father attended Columbia), and he retained it until sometime within the past 10 years.
In 2015 he settled a tax bill with the IRS for capital gains on the sale of a London apartment--the US is uniquely aggressive in asserting domain over citizens' earnings globally--even though he hadn't lived here since the age of 5. Were it not for that, he might well have become the second Tory PM with US citizenship, and the first to be elected with it.
