Boston Police report arresting three people on gun charges - one for possession of a loaded machine gun - in the Mildred Hailey Apartments in Jamaica Plain after gunfire in the Annunciation Road development around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday that sent one bullet through a window and a mirror before it lodged in an apartment wall.
A fourth suspect remains at large, police say.
Police responded to 51 Prentiss St. around 12:45 a.m. on reports from the BPD ShotSpotter system of multiple rounds fired in quick succession. About a half hour later, police say, officers were looking around Mildred Hailey:
Officers observed four individuals who fled upon seeing police. Two of the suspects were seen clutching their waistbands, indicating the possible possession of firearms. Officers pursued them into a nearby residential building, where a suspect discarded an assault rifle-style pistol. The chase continued until two suspects, identified as 20-year-old Yordany Torres Lara, of Jamaica Plain, and 18-year-old Shawnmathew Smith, of Roxbury, were apprehended. A second firearm, a 9mm “ghost gun,” was later recovered in the building.
A third suspect, a 17-year-old male, was found hiding under a parked vehicle and taken into custody. He was found to have multiple outstanding warrants, including charges related to firearm possession, assault, and witness intimidation.
Torres Lara was charged with possession of a machine gun and unlawful possession of a firearm. Smith was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and trespassing, police say. The teen, too young to have his name released, was charged with trespassing and providing a false name to police, in addition to his outstanding warrants, police say.
Innocent, etc.
