When Boston Animal Care and Control said last week they have found Moodini the Roslindale Steer, they said he was out back of the Walgreens off American Legion Highway near Crane Ledge, the wooded hill a Texas developer wants to blast to kingdom come to put in an apartment complex.

But one nearby resident says he has proof Moodini didn't just hoof it to the top of the hill - he spent considerable time on it, and he has proof in the form of photos of lots and lots of cow patties: Read more.

Boston Police report a guy has been looking for chain-wearing seniors getting off buses or trains in Hyde Park, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury, then following them and ripping the chains off their necks. Read more.

James Carnes, 61, of Canton, was sentenced this week to six months of home confinement, followed by 18 months of probation for his participation in an overtime-fraud scheme at the Boston Police evidence warehouse in Hyde Park that netted him a little over $20,000 in unearned pay over 2 1/2 years, the US Attorney's office reports. The MBTA board today approved a $54-million plan to replace the diesel-powered trains on the Fairmount Line with more climate-friendly battery-operated cars within four years, which could mean almost subway-like train frequency - and some relief for Readville residents who live near the yard where diesels now loudly vibrate, hum - and have their horns blared - into the early morning hours. Firefighter surveys damage from window

The Boston Fire Department reports six people were displaced by a fire at 14 Ellis St. in Hyde Park called in shortly before 11:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The fire, which raced through the second floor and attic, caused no injuries, the department reports.

At 1:13 a.m., HoofbeatsEqualZebra, who lives in Readville, reported that an engineer on a commuter-rail or CSX diesel in one of the Readville train yards had blared his air horn more than 60 times. Yes, of course he counted, what else are you going to do at 1:13 in the morning with an air horn blasting through your house? Read more.
