DOUBLE RAINBOW OMG!!!
DOUBLE RAINBOW OMG!!!
wow!!
That's beautiful!
Well not really..
The second, lighter rainbow is a secondary rainbow. It is the reflection of the primary rainbow. Look closely and you'll see that its colors are in reverse order to the primary rainbow.
not a reflection of the first rainbow
A double rainbow is not the reflection of the primary rainbow. The primary rainbow is caused by refraction by the water droplets. The secondary is also caused by refraction combined with reflection within the droplets. The light is refracted upon entering and exiting the droplet due to the change in refractive index. The light that forms the primary rainbow passes through the droplet while the light that forms the secondary rainbow enters the droplet, passes through the droplet, but before exiting, reflects first off the back surface and then the front surface of the droplet. This double reflection within the droplet causes the inversion of the rainbow colors and the diminished intensity.
Ooooh
I am going to take this one up with my middle school science teacher next time I see him (which will probably be never). Thanks for the explanation.
rainbow pics
wicked niiiice!!!!!
So the pot of gold is in SoBo?
Or is it at Fenway Park?
I thought skittles were going to rain down from the sky
Lots of people taking pics of it at Twin City Plaza Cambridge/Somerville.
Pretty fantastic pics!
Whoo!
Visible from all over
My wife saw it coming down 93 from the north and I saw it in Roslindale - one of the most vivid rainbows I've ever seen.
Somewhere over the rainbow...
there's another rainbow.
Here's some video of the Rainbow seen over Pope's Hill yesterday
