Wicked Local Roslindale/West Roxbury reports the Tedeschi on Spring Street in West Roxbury was held up the other day by a guy with a machete:

The employee said he touched the suspect’s knife as the suspect went around the counter and that the knife was plastic.

People unclear on the concept of primaries

You'd think that having reached the age of 40 in a state like Massachusetts, you'd have figured out how party primaries work. Hyde Park poll worker Mike Ball reports that isn't the case:

... Inspector: You are unenrolled. Which ballot would you like, Democratic, Republican or Libertarian?

Voter: I'm an independent.

Inspector: Yes and you have the choice of any of the three ballots. Would you like, Democratic, Republican or Libertarian?

Voter: (angrily) I don’t have to tell you who I’m voting for!

Inspector: That's true, but you do have to decide for today's primary which party ballot you want.

Voter: (raising voice) No, I'm an independent! ...

Yes, Virginia, those living outside of 495 may well be having a home day for the whole family. Quite a lot of schools and the like closed out where it's really snowing.

WBUR: Get Your French Toast @ Trader Joe's

Those messages you hear on WBUR that SOUND like commercials really aren't. They actual nomenclature is "underwriting messages". On Tuesday, midway between a past snowstorm and one-to-come, WBUR aired one for the upscale grocery vendor, Trader Joe's. The content: "get all the makings you need for the best French Toast ever at Trader Joe's." Hmmm...does somebody there read the UH?

Fens gets full-time farm stand

Rather than have the former tire store on Boylston Street in the Fenway sit empty until the financial picture improves, developer Steve Samuels has leased it to the Marshall's Farm Stand people from Gloucester. Next door is a new fitness gym, CrossFit Fenway. Marshall's has the best thing ever for an in-town farm stand: on-site free parking. Grand opening Saturday.
