Board rules Legal Harborside not to blame for alleged fool who threw himself off roof deck on a dare
The Boston Licensing Board today found "no violation" in the case of a guy who leaped into Boston Harbor from the roof deck of Legal Harborside on Northern Avenue.
At a hearing on Tuesday, a Boston Police detective said the man complied with a dare from friends celebrating his birthday to try to get from the deck to the water in a single jump - over both a deck railing and a first-floor boardwalk extending 15 feet out from the restaurant. He was then arrested.
At the hearing, a Legal attorney said the man made the jump despite the presence of four security guards on the deck. He said the restaurant now has one of the guards permanently stationed right at the railing.

legal harborside dive
Most people wouldn't dive off that location but add a few alcoholic beverages and peer pressure and that all it takes. The fact that it can be done is encouraging to other dare devils. Put up some netting and end this once and for all.
Or let fate take its course
The bar is doing what it can -- it puts a barrier in place and in no way encourages people to jump. But if someone *really* wants to test fate, so be it.
I don't think the bar should need to put up netting or even the hire a security guard to watch out for knuckleheads. Provided the bar isn't over-serving people (already illegal), if someone is so dumb to do this then so be it. There needs to be a point in which the bar is no long responsible for keeping stupid people from doing stupid things.
What he said.
Bravo.
but
Wasn't the jumper not determined to be intoxicated?
Yes
So no overserving.
^
Thus stupid.
or a daredevil.
Stupid is as stupid does
Stupid is as stupid does
If he isn't fresh...he isn't

Why only an "alleged" fool?
I'd say someone like that is a real fool.
Not this again.....
He's an "alleged" fool because Adam, the author of the article, has no direct knowledge of whether he's a fool or not, and is reporting what others have said about him.
Compare:
"alleged fool"
I prefer to believe that Adam was employing a little tongue-in-cheek humor here. Well, I thought it was funny, anyway......
