Boston Police report arresting two men a 911 caller reported were walking down Savin Street in Roxbury Friday night, at least until officers arrived and then try tried to run away, but failed - one also then failed to hide in some grass that wasn't tall enough to cover him, police say. Read more.

The Supreme Judicial Court today agreed one of three men convicted for the murder of a Dudley Square cobbler trying to protect his son from them on Dec. 10, 1974, deserves a new trial because of questions about eyewitness testimony and the failure of Suffolk County prosecutors to turn over evidence that might have bolstered his claim of innocence. Boston Police are seeking help to identify the guy they say crept up to a house on Devon Street in Grove Hall and then spent some time "looking into an occupied bathroom window" around 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday.

Transit Police report a man who plowed his 2004 Honda into the back of an MBTA bus at Columbus Avenue and Dimock Street - where there are two center bus lanes marked off with barriers and red pavement paint - around 6:30 p.m. yesterday told arriving officers he was just following his car's GPS. The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans to convert a long unoccupied Victorian and its carriage house at 43 Hutchings St. in Roxbury into a residential Web-programming school for 14 young women - over the objections of neighbors, who say they want to keep their street a place of single-family homes rather than a place where do-gooders can dump yet more transitional housing. Eversource reports nearly 1,900 homes and businesses in a swath of Roxbury along Melnea Cass Boulevard - and into South Boston - are without power. Among the affected buildings: 1010 Massachusetts Ave., home to the Boston Public Health Commission, ISD and the Zoning Board of Appeal, which has turned to battery-powered laptops to try to continue its scheduled hearings for today.

Eversource says it hopes to begin restoring power around 3:30 p.m., with the final outage eliminated by 5.
