State Police report its marine unit recovered a woman's body from the Charles River between the Mass Ave. Bridge and Community Boating around 7:25 a.m. after a kayaker reported her floating in the water. Read more.

A Boston Municipal Court judge today ordered Luis Olivo, 37, sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for evaluation before he is arraigned for allegedly stabbing and beating a woman on the Esplanade Friday afternoon, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

US Coast Guard helicopter

Out on a run this morning, Jason Richardson spotted a Coast Guard helicopter flying in a training mission over the Charles by the Esplanade.

The crew also flew low and loud along Mass. Ave. in Cambridge and Central Square.

Arthur Fiedler's giant head with a Red Sox cap on

The Esplanade Fiedler Head is sporting a 17-foot-wide, 7-foot-tall knit Sox cap this morning in honor of the team's ALDS victory last night, courtesy of the Esplanade Association.

“My father was a Red Sox fan and I often joined him at Fenway Park for games. I’m sure he would approve of the donning of a Red Sox hat, especially this year,” said Peter Fiedler, son of legendary Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler.

A city health inspector ordered the Charles River Bistro, next to the Hatch Shell, shut for health violations that included "flies throughout kitchen/prep/ware washing area" and employees who need some basic food-safety training. Read more.

A Suffolk Superior Court judge today sentenced Alejandro Done, 49, of the South End, to 18 to 22 years in prison - but with much of that to run concurrently with, rather than after, a Middlesex County rape sentence he is already serving, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Closed trash receptacles on the Esplanade

A roving UHub photographer noticed DCR's announcement that it won't be emptying the trash receptacles on the Esplanade from now until April:

Looks like some slob has already started what will probably end up being a mountain of dog waste bags by April 1. What gives?
